This is a working & project oriented class : Bring Extra Water & Work Clothes
Homestead for Spring Sessions 3 & 4 will include Homestead & Jr Woodworking projects

Homestead Class exciting on the farm!

  • Homestead Animals Connection : hands on projects and learning

  • Farm projects & chores like raking a stall, and hauling to a compost pile. Putting compost in the garden. Cleaning a rabbit cage. Learning about their valuable manure to help soil and  food to growth. Preparing and planting in the garden!

  • Pet, hand feed, be up close and in with many of the animals. Hold rabbits, chickens and babies coming up in the spring. Get to know the animals and their babies by name.

  • Exact timing on a birth can't be planned, and we may see a brand new baby standing by mama, maybe more. We will get to see many newborn lambs and watch them grow.

  • Spring is shearing time. We will learn about wool, and work it!

  •

We all pitch in!  It's more fun than it may sound, but we work with a purpose, together. Kids feel proud of their contribution and efforts. We have fun while doing it!

We get to be with, pet and hand feed the animals

Care for them: clean pens and cages and learn about them, and their contribution on the farm
We expect lambs and other farm babies to start being born on the farm in February. This is a special and exciting time on the farm!

We get to be with the babies when mama and circumstance allow, being respectful to the mama and baby connection and their timing. We will learn about them, observe & when ready we will get to help socialize the babies, and how sweet that is!

Garden in late winter and spring is an important job and we will learn through work and lessons many aspects of how food can grow in a variety of ways, what helps it to grow well, and deeply nutritious.
We grow food here for both people and animals. Learning and observing organic, companion methods. Other methods commonly used here are no till, vertical, container, hay bale, hukerculter, 3 sisters, herbs, composting methods and more.

As kids are older and more ready for more challenging projects they may  help or learn projects like: help with some fencing, paint a gate, tighten a wheel on a wheel barrow.

A note:
If your child wants to be around animals and then needs more free time, or generally wants to play with friends please look at Farm & Nature Wilder.
This class may be with us for part of the time in Homestead. A child must be ready, interested and aware to be safe around the animals and have more opportunity to learn and do cooperative projects. If their pull is to wrestle, play or do games after a shorter time  Farm and Nature Explorer is a great class for them.
